This page describes, in plain language, exactly what Pet Companion does with your data today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. If you need a legal opinion on it, get one — don't rely on this page as legal advice.
What this covers
Pet Companion is a WhatsApp bot: you message a phone number, and everything about your pet — profile, medications, health history — lives on our servers so we can send reminders and answer questions about it later. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and how to make us delete it.
What we collect
Directly from you, over WhatsApp:
- Your WhatsApp number — how we identify your account and send messages.
- Your name and email — only if you give them to us (email is usually captured when you upgrade, so we can match your payment to your account).
- Pet profiles — name, species, breed, date of birth, weight, and your vet's name/phone if you add them.
- Medications — name, frequency, and due dates, so we can remind you.
- Health history — vet visits, symptoms you describe, weight logs, and recovery check-in answers, exactly as you type them to us.
- Message history — we keep your conversation so the bot can follow a multi-turn discussion (e.g. a symptom follow-up) and so a real person can review it if you contact support about something that happened in the chat.
Automatically:
- The IP address your first message came from — used only to detect the same person creating many free accounts to dodge the free-tier limits.
- Subscription status — your plan, and a Stripe customer reference (see below — we never see your card details).
How we use it
Strictly to run the service you're using:
- Sending medication and vaccine reminders on the schedule you set
- Generating symptom-triage and wellness-calendar responses (via Claude — see below)
- Running daily recovery check-ins after you log a vet visit
- Keeping your pet's health record so HISTORY and EXPORT actually show something
- Enforcing plan limits (pet count, reminders, AI messages per month)
- Billing, if you're on a paid plan
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of providers to run Pet Companion. Each only sees the data it needs to do its job:
- Twilio — delivers your WhatsApp messages. Sees your number and message content in transit.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — generates the bot's AI responses (free-form chat, symptom triage, wellness calendars). Your message text and a summary of your pet's profile (species, breed, age, active medications) are sent to Anthropic to produce that response, under Anthropic's own API terms.
- Stripe — handles all payments. Pet Companion never receives or stores your card number — only a customer reference ID and your subscription status.
- Supabase — hosts our database (everything listed above).
- Railway — hosts the bot itself and the scheduled jobs that send reminders.
- Vercel — hosts this website and the internal admin dashboard.
We don't share your data with anyone else, and we don't sell it to data brokers, advertisers, or anyone.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. To delete everything, message the bot: DELETE MY DATA.
- Any active subscription is cancelled immediately.
- Your data is kept for 30 days in case you change your mind — reply KEEP MY DATA anytime in that window to cancel the deletion.
- After 30 days, your account, pets, medications, health records, and message history are permanently and irreversibly erased.
Your choices
- Reply EDIT PET to correct or update anything on a pet's profile.
- Reply HISTORY to see everything logged for a pet; Pro plans can reply EXPORT for a downloadable PDF.
- Reply DELETE MY DATA at any time to erase your account (see above).
- Reply CANCEL to stop a paid subscription without deleting your data.
Children
Pet Companion is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has set up an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or who we share it with changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and, where the change is significant, message you about it directly.
